Basket Pedestal Stand

Basket Pedestal Stand from Denise on a Whim
I was cleaning my house out when I came across this nice basket.
By came across I mean, emptied out all the toys that had gotten shoved into it
and refound the basket!
I didn't want it sitting on my floor any longer so I decided to try and make it into a stand.

Since I have lots of wooden pieces just hanging around,
it was rather simple to find a pedestal and a base.
The piece I used for the pedestal already had a dowel in one end
so I drilled a hole in a piece of scrap wood
that would serve as a support for the bottom of the basket
and inserted the dowel into the hole,
using liquid nails to secure it.

I cut a cross piece for the original repurposed wood base to prevent the basket from tipping over.
Then I added a piece of wood on the bottom of each side of the base to make the bottom of the base even with the bottom of the cross bar.
That way, it stands level on the floor.

Since the basket was a pretty solid weave on the bottom,
I was able to drill 4 screws through it to attach it to the support underneath.

Here is the basket decked out with some Christmas greenery.
(or pinery as my friend likes to call it)
Now it's a functional and pretty piece
and it takes up less real estate on the floor!
